Huge new GNG Group factory to create manufacturing jobs in West Yorkshire.

A 40,000 square foot factory and warehouse is coming to West Yorkshire, creating at least 20 new jobs in this year alone.

The site in Normanton is owned by the West Yorkshire company GNG Group, a specialist manufacturer of foam products for the bedding, sports and healthcare sectors.

The company is planning to move its mattress division to Normanton from an existing site in Navigation Yard, Wakefield. The space freed up there will be handed over to GNG’s sports and safety division.

With an additional 25,000 square foot of floor space to work with, it’s hoped that this division can grow in line with the company’s ambitious expansion plans. What’s more, it should be able to meet capacity for the rising demand for specialist products in this sector.

Work has now begun on their huge new Normanton site, which involves the construction of a factory to support the expansion of its consumer mattress manufacturing division.

Once built, the factory will enable GNG Group to at least quadruple its manufacturing capacity. By boosting production by as much as 300%, the company will also be able to create new manufacturing jobs for the West Yorkshire area.

Commenting on the company’s expansion plans, GNG Group’s managing director Darren Potterton told Insider Media Ltd

“Given the group’s strong performance and continued commitment to providing employment during these turbulent times, we see a bright future for the company, supported by the new investment and key government manufacturing initiatives.

“The facility will be ready in time to meet our new business demands and pivotal to growing existing and new export opportunities. British manufacturing is at an exciting time and I’m really looking forward to establishing GNG as a market leader in dynamic, eco-friendly medical and consumer mattress design both in the UK and beyond.”

20-week programme of high-tech sustainability improvements almost complete

The new Normanton facility is currently undergoing an extensive programme of refurbishment, expected to last 20 weeks in total. But it’ll be ready for use as early as May 2022.

Many of the works are designed to support GNG Group’s long-term plan to reducing or offsetting its carbon footprint. Contractors are installing a number of innovative and eco-friendly improvements, including low energy lighting and solar panels to power the site.

Once operational, the factory and warehouse will be equipped with electric fork trucks. There are also future plans in the pipeline for additional investment in the site to shrink the company’s carbon footprint even further.
